WE, the undersigned group of Iranian academicians and scholars of Iranian heritage worldwide, are shocked by a recent editorial in the People’s Daily, the chief organ of the Chinese Communist Party, that portrays the protests of Iranians against the rigged presidential election and in favor of a transparent and democratic government as an instance of “naked political scheming” by the United States.
